Foolish me! A few weeks
back I wrote a column on
diet-friendly pizzas -- yummy topping-blanketed pies that are good for
everyone. Well, everyone but folks like me who have chosen to follow a
low-carb lifestyle.
Being
relatively new to the Atkins Nutritional Approach -- I just
started my seventh wonderful week -- I pretty much put pizza on the
list of foods I could no longer enjoy. Boy, was I wrong.
Yes, your typical pizza dough is crammed with
carbs. But thanks to a
combination of modern technology and good ol' kitchen ingenuity, I
received a small avalanche of alternatives. A few others I discovered
while surfing the eDiets.com website. In order to round out this column
-- just so men and women of all dieting persuasions can be enlightened
-- I have tossed in a few great low-fat, lower-cal concoctions.
But before I get to the meat of the matter, let me
update you on my
Atkins-induced weight loss progress. I dropped another 2 1/2 pounds
this past week to boost my 6-week weight loss tally to the awesome
20-pound mark.
I was at my all-time high of 224 pounds when I
started the Atkins Diet
a month and a half ago. Yesterday, in the
privacy of my own bathroom, I weighed in at 204 pounds.
As I move from Induction to the Ongoing Weight
Loss phase of this
4-phase plan, I'm feeling more energetic and my clothes are fitting
much better. In fact, while shopping at Old Navy this past weekend, I
discovered my waist had shrunk two inches. I needed a comfortable size
36 rather than the baggy 38 I first grabbed out of habit!
What's really exciting about this week's progress
is at comes on the
heels of my 44th birthday. After three days of dining out (my birthday
fell on a Friday) and enjoying a few drinks with my meals, I was
stunned to see such weight loss success. I lost weight after feasting
on 3-egg omelets stuffed with cheese, onions and sausage... Caesar
salad, steamed veggies and steak and shrimp at the Outback (washed down
with a few mugs of low-carb Michelob Ultra beer)... chicken wings...
and a few celebratory bourbons and Diet Cokes.
I know... I know... It's not the way to go about
healthy weight loss
but I am back on track with my nifty eDiets-created Atkins menu and my
nightly workouts down the cellar where my treadmill and Soloflex are no
longer collecting dust.
